Oats are rich in protein, vitamin, calcium, and fiber. They are sold either as steel cuts or instant cook flour. The cuts are much better as they retain nutrients more than instant flour.

Oatmeal is recommended for children above four months of age. It can be added to yogurt, meat, fruits or vegetables for toddlers to promote nutrition.


HOW TO MAKE FRESH OATMEAL

Ingredients:

¼ cup of oats ground in a food processor or blender
1- 1½ cups water

Steps to follow:

  • Put water in a saucepan and let boil
  • Add oatmeal in small portions while constantly stirring
  • Boil for at least 10 minutes while still stirring
  • Add breast or formula milk as desired (breast milk preferred)

Serve warm; feed infant with a teaspoon


Note: remember to serve three to four times as you observe baby’s reaction.

TO STORE: Oatmeal should be stored in an airtight container in a dry and cool place. If you live in a hot area, you can refrigerate it using the same container.
